Custom Supplement Formulation – From Concept to Finished Product

You have a market opportunity, a target consumer, maybe a product name. What you don’t have yet is a formula. Product development is the service for brands that are starting here – with a brief, not a recipe. We handle everything from initial formulation through to a finished, tested, ready-to-sell product under your label.

WHO THIS IS FOR

You know what you want to sell. You need someone to build it

Product development at Noviatic is for brands that are creating something new – not adapting an existing formula, not looking for a ready-made private label product to rebrand, but genuinely developing a supplement that does not exist yet in the form they want it.

That might be a novel ingredient combination. A specific delivery format that improves on what is already on the market. A product designed for a particular consumer segment with very specific requirements. Or simply a brand entering the supplement space for the first time, with a clear vision and no manufacturing background.

Whatever the starting point, the process is the same: you bring the brief, we build the product.

Custom supplement product development from formulation and sampling to full-scale manufacturing.

Formulation development

Once the brief is confirmed, our in-house R&D team develops the formula. Ingredient selection, sourcing review, compatibility testing, flavour development for the target market and initial regulatory checks for the destination market are all part of this stage.

The formula that comes out of this process is yours. We do not reuse or resell custom formulations developed for a specific brand.

Sampling

Before full production begins, we can produce samples for you to evaluate – so you can assess the product in its actual form before committing to scale. This is not a guaranteed step in every project, and the number of samples varies depending on the formula and format. Your project manager confirms what is possible and what it involves once we have reviewed your brief.

Scale-up and full production

Once the pilot is confirmed, the formula moves to full production. At this point the process is identical to contract manufacturing – your validated formula, our facility, full QC testing, packaged and shipped under your label.

After launch

Product development does not end at first shipment. The same project manager who ran your development handles reorders, reformulations if the market requires them, new SKU additions and any regulatory updates that affect your product in your target markets. The team that built your formula stays with it.

HOW IT WORKS

From brief to finished product – the stages of custom supplement development

Brief and feasibility

Every project starts with a conversation. What is the product meant to do? Who is it for? What market is it selling into? What format makes sense for that consumer and that channel?

At this stage, our R&D team reviews the brief for technical feasibility – whether the combination of ingredients, format and target claims is achievable, and whether anything in the brief creates a regulatory or production obstacle worth knowing about before work begins.

This is also where we are honest about fit. If a brief is not workable as described, we say so – and explain why.

WHAT WE BRING TO THE PROCESS

The inputs that make custom formulation work in practice, not just on paper

Custom supplement formulation is only useful if the formula can actually be manufactured, pass quality testing, meet regulatory requirements in your target market and hold up on the shelf. A lot of formulation work fails not because the science is wrong but because the practical constraints were not built in from the start.

Our R&D team develops formulas with all of those constraints already in scope:

Sourceable ingredients – every formula is built around ingredients we can actually source from our qualified supplier network, not theoretical inputs that create supply problems when production starts.

Format compatibility – the formula and the delivery format are developed together. A formulation that works in a capsule may behave differently in a liquid shot. We work across both simultaneously so there are no surprises at the production stage.

Stability – a formula needs to hold its specification for the full stated shelf life, not just at the point of manufacture. Stability is considered during formulation, not tested for the first time after production.

Common questions

What brands ask us about custom supplement formulation?

What do I need to bring to start a product development project?

A brief. That can be as simple as a target consumer, a health benefit, a format preference and a target market. You do not need a formula – that is what this service produces. The more specific your brief, the faster and more accurately we can work. But we have started projects from much less than a finished specification.

It depends on the formula’s complexity and how familiar we are with the ingredients. Formulas using ingredients we work with regularly move faster, since they’re already evaluated and often in stock – new or hard-to-source ingredients need extra supplier research and testing first, which extends both development time and pricing. Your project manager confirms a realistic timeline once the brief is reviewed.

Yes. Product development is collaborative. Your R&D contact keeps you informed at each stage, shares technical feedback and incorporates your input on flavour, format and ingredient preferences. You are not handed a finished formula with no visibility into how it was built.

Adjustments after the pilot are normal and expected. That is partly what the pilot is for – to evaluate the product and identify anything that needs to change before full production. Your project manager and R&D team work through any adjustments and confirm whether a further pilot or additional testing is required before scale-up.

We provide technical and regulatory input – ingredient trends and format considerations for your target market.

We do not run marketing strategy or brand positioning. What we can tell you is what is selling, what formats are growing in your category and where the formulation opportunities are. Commercial decisions about positioning stay with you.

Product development is the full-service path – from brief through formulation, pilot, scale-up and into production, with packaging and logistics included. Formulation R&D is the development work as a standalone service, for brands that want to take a validated formula to their own manufacturer or need development work independently of production. Most brands use product development – it keeps the team that builds the formula connected to the team that produces it.

The formula belongs to you. If you choose to move production elsewhere, the formula is yours to take. We document ownership clearly before development begins.
