When tincture is the right format – and what to weigh against it
Tinctures suit concentrated botanical extracts where a small, precise dose matters more than a large serving size – a few drops under the tongue or in a drink, rather than a full shot or syrup. They also suit actives that extract more efficiently in alcohol or glycerin than in other liquid carriers.
The trade-off is regulatory: tinctures – particularly herbal formulas – carry market-specific restrictions on permitted ingredients, concentration limits and labelling that vary considerably across the EU.

What is the difference between alcohol-based and glycerin-based tinctures?
Alcohol-based tinctures generally extract certain botanicals more efficiently and offer longer shelf stability. Glycerin-based tinctures are alcohol-free, suit children’s or alcohol-sensitive formulas, and have a milder taste. Your R&D contact can advise on the right base for your formula.
Can I private label a tincture formula?
Tinctures are currently available through contract manufacturing and custom formulation. Speak with your project manager about availability for your formula’s category.
What is the minimum order quantity for tinctures?
MOQ varies by formula and concentration and is confirmed during the quote, typically from around 5,000 units. Pilot batches are available for new formulations.
How long does a tincture production run take?
Approximately 10–12 weeks from purchase order for an existing formulation. Custom formulation adds development time – confirmed per project.
What testing applies to tincture formulas?
The same full testing stack as our other liquid formats: heavy metals, microbial count, potency, identity and allergens. Not every test applies to every product; what’s required is agreed with you upfront and confirmed in the specification.
